Searching #78 Video

1. I wanted to find video footage of Shaun White's performance from the Olympics since I missed it on television. I searched Truveo first, and a search just for his name found the footage I wanted. Truveo took me directly to the NBC sports footage of both of Shaun White's runs and his interview given afterward. When I tried to search in Blinkx, the results were different. Just typing "Shaun White" brought up several videos, some were older pieces and one appeared to be footage of one of the run's, but the video wouldn't play; so I am not exactly sure. I did another search adding 2010 olympics and one of the video's looked like it might be what I wanted. When I clicked on it, I was taken to the Today show site and footage from an interview on the Today show came up. I didn't watch the whole thing but assumed at some point his olympic gold performance was played. It appears both sites link you back to the original site hosting the video, but it took longer in Blinkx for me to find what I wanted.

2. For our branch, we could post videos of some of our programs, like the holiday open house. The type people would enjoy seeing again or for the first time if they missed the live performance. Perhaps a couple of how-to videos similar to Freeman's how to buy a print card, especially since our print card dispenser is different from Freeman's, or how to search the catalog might be a helpful video. Of course, none would be helpful if you don't let people know that the videos exist.

1. 10 clicks to find a santa.

2. One of the sites I chose to look at was FreeMediaGoo.com. Some cool pictures, but not sure if I would use any. At least not for what I was thinking, a personal decoupage project at home on some old furniture. I do like that they appear to be of good resolution and free, though. The site may come in handy one day.

The other site I chose to look at was morgueFile.com. This site appears useful. I like how the majority of images are free to use. I did come across some copyrighted images. The filters didn't quite work for me, or my browser just wasn't wanting to load. But may prove handy in narrowing a search if you're not exactly sure of what you're looking for.

Searching #75 Google and Beyond

1. I did three searches in Blindsearch and managed to pick the column for Google every time. Apparently, my favorite search engine is the one that works, at least for me. So, I will probably not be changing my searching habits.



2. Google is the number one search engine this week, 72% usage compared to Yahoo's 15%, which is the number 2 on the list. As stated above, Google is my first choice and seems to be for many others.



3. I decided to explore Bing. I haven't used this search engine much and I was interested in seeing what it had to offer. Most of the features were similar to what I've found on other sites and search engines, but I did find one that I may try. The travel features were intriguing and I may try it one day to see what it gives me for any upcoming trips or ideas for upcoming trips. Nice to get prices in one spot. I usually use another site for this, but may give Bing a try. Never know I may like it better.
